As of this writing, I am going back and forth with their billing department, trying to get my $12 back. Because, you know, it’s the principal of the thing. I have also opened a dispute with Paypal, for services not as described/not working. Please be wary and seek hosting elsewhere. The server we went to is Host Havoc, and so far they have been great. I mean, they actually answer their tickets, which is something! And quickly too! I put in 2 tickets, and got responses within minutes. And responses to my responses within minutes, too! Here’s hoping they continue to be great. Transferring between Citadel serverscitadelservers This is a follow on from my original “setting up your own email server” article. Our test server has been running very nicely here in the office for the last couple of weeks – the only drawbacks being that it is behind a regular DSL line, so upload speeds are slow, and all the mail is coming in via POP, so no Spamassassin functionality. But I’ve worked out how the system works, so it’s time to get a “real” server out there… I’ve setup a dedicated server with Aplus.net, using the steps in my previous article. However, this time, BEFORE logging in for the first time, I need to transfer everything from the old system to the new: Setting up FTP server on the new host: For this project, I’m going to use pure-ftpd – once we’re done with Citadel, I’ll close the FTP server down and block off the port again, so no need to make this start at reboot: Install the server with yum install pure-ftpd.i386 Make sure that port 21 is enabled in the iptables Also open ports 30000-50000 – add the line -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 30000:50000 -j ACCEPT to your /etc/sysconfig/iptables file Uncomment the “passive port range” definition in /etc/pure-ftpd/pure-ftpd.conf Uncomment the line “Unixauthentication yes” to enable using the user accounts on your new server – this is only a temporary ftp setup, so no need to isolate the user database Restart the ftp server with /etc/init.d/pure-ftpd restart Now you can connect from your old host, using good old FTP Transfer the file “exported.dat” to somewhere you can find it on the new server – note that this might take quite some time, especially if you are uploading over a dsl connection Move exported.dat out of the way, and create a compressed file of your /usr/local/citadel directory – use tar cvzf citadel.tgz citadel – note this works recursively unless you specify otherwise, which is handy! Now transfer that tar file onto the new server and unzip it into the new /usr/local/citadel directory with tar xvzf citadel.tgz
